On December 13, the prestigious American magazine Time chose Tesla's CEO, billionaire Elon Musk, as the person of the year 2021.
Billionaire Elon Musk was born in 1971 in South Africa. In addition to running Tesla, he is also the founder and CEO of aerospace corporation SpaceX, chip development company Neuralink and infrastructure construction services company The Boring Company.
In addition to pursuing his main business, billionaire Musk is pursuing a high-speed transportation system called the Hyperloop.
He said the goals of SpaceX, Tesla and SolarCity revolve around his vision of "changing the world and helping humanity."
His goals include reducing global warming through sustainable energy production and consumption, and reducing the risk of human extinction by establishing a human colony on Mars.
Tesla's continued surge in shares has helped billionaire Elon Musk's net worth surpass the $300 billion mark on Bloomberg's rankings.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index updated on October 29, 2021, Mr. Musk currently has assets of 302 billion USD, more than 100 billion USD more than the second richest person in the world, billionaire Jeff Bezos.
Mr. Musk is now also twice as rich as other famous figures such as Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg or Lawrence Edward Page (co-founder of Google).
In 2020, the current President and Vice President of the United States, Mr. Joe Biden and Ms. Kamala Harris, were the winners of Time magazine's Person of the Year nomination.
A year earlier, the magazine had given the title to environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
