The movement to build "Youth Nurseries" launched by Gia Loc District Youth Union (Hai Duong) not only helps communes and towns plant more trees and improve the living environment, but in the near future, it may create more income for people.
Responding to the "Youth Nursery" movement, Thong Nhat Commune Youth Union asked for opinions and was approved by the Party Committee and People's Committee to implement it in the land area behind the People's Committee headquarters. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Secretary of Thong Nhat Commune Youth Union, said that this area was previously abandoned, some people converted it to grow vegetables and fruits. Therefore, when starting to implement, the Commune Youth Union mobilized youth union members to clear weeds, hired excavators to build beds, and underneath there was a ditch to hold water to water the plants. "We have made a bed 30 m long, 5 m wide to grow more than 200 shade trees such as wind chime, Taiwan banyan, and bauhinia... When the trees grow big, they will be planted in public places," said Mr. Tien.
After a short time, seeing the practicality of the nursery model, Mr. Tien requested and was allowed to expand the nursery area by 4 more beds like that.
Immediately after Gia Loc District Youth Union deployed, Tan Tien Commune Youth Union actively promoted and mobilized youth union members to respond to the movement to build nurseries. Secretary of Tan Tien Commune Youth Union Tran Thi May Hong said that the youth here had finished planting a garden with over 200 shade trees of various types. After planting, the Commune Youth Union coordinated with Tan Tien Primary School to take care of the trees so that they would grow well. "We washed cars to raise funds, and coordinated with the Tan Tien Primary School Youth Union to mobilize over 6.8 million VND. Of which, nearly 3.4 million VND was used to build a nursery, the remaining funds were used to install 2 solar lights at the school gate area," said Ms. Hong.
According to Mr. Tang Duy Nguyen, Secretary of Gia Loc District Youth Union, by the end of March, the Youth Unions of communes and towns had built and put the "Youth Nursery" model into operation as planned. All units proactively organized car washes to raise funds, some units were supported by benefactors.
Despite the sunny weather, the youth union members of Toan Thang commune still actively built a nursery about 100 m wide.2, growing 9 groups of medicinal plants such as those to treat coughs, insomnia, acne, bones and joints... "We plant and care for the garden to grow well and people can come and get them according to their needs to serve the purpose of treatment", said Ms. Tang Thi Nhung, Secretary of the Youth Union of Toan Thang commune.
At Thong Nhat commune nursery, besides shade trees, Mr. Nguyen Van Tien plans to grow more traditional medicine and green vegetables such as squash, pumpkin, luffa... Mr. Tien added: "When completed, the garden will be about 750 m wide.2, we divide into areas to grow different types of trees. Shade trees can be sold to people in the commune or neighboring communes, harvested vegetables are sold to raise funds for local activities, medicinal plants are taken by people to treat diseases... I believe we will do a good job of maintaining and developing this model because the local youth union force is quite large."
With clear and specific directions, the "Youth Incubator" model of the Commune and Town Unions in Gia Loc district will certainly promote practical effectiveness and bring many benefits.
