Bac Kan Department of Health said that the test results of patient samples determined that the cause of 70 people hospitalized was gastrointestinal infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus.
On September 23, a representative of the Department of Health provided the above information, adding that the source of the infection had not yet been determined. Initially, authorities suspected that the cause could be from a communal meal or the water source.
Currently, the Bac Kan health sector continues to investigate and identify the source of infection for thorough treatment, while advising people to maintain personal hygiene and disease prevention measures.
During the lunch on September 19, 88 students and 5 teachers of Nong Thuong Primary and Secondary School, Bac Kan city ate together. The menu included rice, fried chicken, vegetable soup, stir-fried potatoes, and watermelon.
The next morning, all students went to school, in good health, but at 9am, 20 students developed fever, stomachache, headache, and diarrhea and were taken to the City Medical Center for emergency treatment. The number continued to increase to 70 people, treated at medical facilities in the area, with similar symptoms.
Currently, most patients are stable, there are no critical cases.
