Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, has passed away at the age of 94.

According to the family announcement, Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on November 23, 2024, at the age of 94.

Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien was born on February 27, 1931, into a farming family in Dai Dong commune, Thach That district, Son Tay (now part of Hanoi).

At the age of 13 or 14, he was enlightened and joined the Secret Society. When the August Revolution broke out, he and the youth in the village followed the adults to seize power in the commune and district.

During the national resistance war, he actively participated in propaganda, mobilizing the masses and eliminating evil and traitors in the locality. Unfortunately, he was captured, tortured and imprisoned by the enemy in Son Tay and Hoa Lo prison, but he remained steadfast. Escaping from prison, he continued to participate in activities and enlisted in September 1950 in Regiment 48, Delta Division 320, continuously fighting in the provinces of Son Tay, Hoa Binh, Ha Dong, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh and Thai Binh, and with his unit achieved many outstanding feats.

After graduating from the Army Officer School 1, he worked in Military Region 3 for a while and then went to the South with Division 320 to fight. He participated in the battles at Quang Tri Battlefield, Route 9 - Southern Laos, Dak To - Tan Canh, the campaign to liberate the Central Highlands, then the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign to completely liberate the South and performed international duties in Cambodia.

Next was nearly 10 years in command of the 3rd Corps participating in holding key areas, protecting the northern border of the Fatherland and organizing marches back to the Central Highlands to build the main Corps in a new battle position, both ready to fight and participating in building a secure and prosperous Central Highlands. Before retiring, he also had 10 years in charge of the position of Director of the Military Department and Principal of the 1st Army Officer School.

With his contributions, Lieutenant General Khuat Duy Tien was awarded many noble medals and orders by the Party and State, including: Military Exploit Order (Second Class, Ва), Victory Order against France, Third Class, Resistance War against America, First Class, 2 Exploit Orders, First Class, Glorious Soldier Order (First, Second, Third), 60-year Party membership badge...

On October 30, 2013, he was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.
