Sea, Mountain, You and Waves by poet Do Trung Quan is a beautiful, meaningful love poem, loved by many people.
SEA, MOUNTAINS, YOU AND WAVES
Thank you coastal roads
For many couples to go together
Thank you waves for speaking so freely
The poplar trees speak in whispers
I am like a mountain standing all my life looking at the sea
A love that reaches the top of the sky
I am a wave but please don't be like a wave
Once you have pushed in, please do not go back out to sea.
You are like a mountain standing faithful for a thousand years
Don't raise your head even if you touch the clouds
Love the sea lapping at my feet
Even though sometimes because of the waves the mountain is thin...
Thank you for being gentle by my side
The sea out there is so blue, no need to say much
The mountain is too close - the waves and you are too close
I have enough words to express my love.
DO TRUNG QUAN
Poet Do Trung Quan has many poems set to music that are loved by many people such as:Homeland, Royal Poinciana…The poem “The sea, the mountains, you and the waves” was also composed into a poem of the same name by musician Nguyen Bon. Reading the title of the poem, I found it a bit strange and curious, because the 4 subjects (sea, mountain, you, waves) were mentioned right in the title of the poem. I read and re-read the poem and found it interesting, because of the faithful, beautiful and extremely pure love here. Interestingly, that love is skillfully sent by the poet into the beautiful, vivid natural scenery, so it is even more pure, delicate and attractive.
Throughout the poem, the lyrical character has expressed his thanks more than once:Thank you coastal roads, Thank you waves, rows of poplar treesandthank youThe first thanks, the poet dedicates to the beautiful and poetic coastal roads, because that is the road of love. That road is not only for the lyrical character, but also for many couples in love. The next thanks is to thank the “waves” and the “rows of poplar trees”. Because “The waves speak for the surging words/ The poplar trees speak for the whispering words.Imagewaveandpoplar roware supporting factors that “speak for, speak on behalf of” the emotional levels, sometimes overflowing, sometimes whispering the words of a couple in love. Thus, in the first stanza, through beautiful images of nature, the poet indirectly sends a passionate, lasting love that is no less poetic.
From the second stanza, you and I begin to “appear”. Through the metaphorical image of you - mountain, symbolizing stability and steadfastness; I - wave symbolizing softness and flexibility: The comparison “You are like a mountain” is repeated twice in the second and third stanzas, is it possible that the lyrical character wants to open his heart, or rather, to affirm the certainty, loyalty and consistency in love? But it is a love that “reaches the top of the sky”, a metaphorical artistic device to affirm a noble love, regardless of obstacles, regardless of time. Here, the author uses words indicating endless time such as: “forever”, “thousand years” to affirm the steadfast love that is always the same, proving his only loyalty.
As for me, the waves are a metaphor for the girl you love. But the waves “speak for the overflowing words”, surely your love has been reciprocated by the resonance of the waves. But then, the vague worry in love always reminds me that: “I am a wave but please don't be like a wave/ Once you push in, please don't go back out to sea. From the law of waves constantly pushing in and then drifting away, the lyrical character is restless, afraid of the uncertainties that can happen to love at any time. The love of the mountain and the ocean waves, of you and me, is steadfast, but on my part, sometimes "because the mountain waves are thin...”. The verse is a metaphor for the storms in love (from my side). Because love is not always smooth sailing, with no clear understanding, but also has its problems (anger, anxiety, misunderstanding...). Perhaps, that is also a little spice needed to make love more poetic?
In the last verse, the lyrical character directly expresses his feelings for you - my love:“Thank you for gently walking beside me/ The sea out there is so blue, there is no need to say much/ The mountains are so close - the waves and you are so close/ I have enough words to express my love”.So, despite the sudden storms, in the end, you are still gentle with me. I feel your love as vast and deep as the love of the sea. The sea, the mountains, you and the waves, all four entities are closely connected and converge in the last verse as an inseparable unity. That is when I have "enough words" and confidently express my love.
The Sea, the Mountain, You and the Waves by poet Do Trung Quan is a beautiful, meaningful love poem, loved by many people. The poem opens with a thank you.Coastal roadsand ends with a thank you. Because it is both a witness of love and contributes to making love more meaningful. It can be said that this is a consistency, giving readers wonderful aftertastes of a faithful, complete love. With unique structure, simple language and images, the poet wants to send to readers different levels of emotions of an extremely pure, profound, faithful love that everyone wishes to have.
