New details in the robbery of over 2.2 million USD: The mastermind is not the victim's son

Today, March 25, Tay Ninh Provincial Police continued to take statements from the arrested subjects to expand the investigation into the robbery of more than 2.2 million USD.

The Investigation Police Agency has prosecuted Pham Ly Phuong (34 years old, from Tay Ninh), Dao Xuan Loc (34 years old, from Dong Nai), Nguyen Tuan Anh (32 years old, from Ninh Binh) and Nguyen Anh Duy (32 years old, from Binh Dinh) for the crime of "Robbery". The police also prosecuted Le Nguyen Binh (37 years old, residing in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City) for the crime of "Concealing criminals".

The victim of the robbery was Ms. PTML (43 years old, residing in District 3). According to the investigation, Pham Ly Phuong is not Ms. PTML's daughter as initially reported. Phuong's mother is a friend of Ms. L.

Recently, Phuong heard her mother say that Ms. L. had just received 2 million USD and brought it home to Loi Thuan commune, Ben Cau district, Tay Ninh province. Because she needed money to spend, Phuong came up with the idea of ​​inviting a group of friends to stage a scene to rob Ms. L. of the money.

Following Phuong's tip, on the afternoon of March 10, Loc, Anh, and Duy came to the house. The group met Ms. L., claiming to be police officers, to investigate the large amount of foreign currency she was holding. They asked Ms. L. to come to the police station to explain and clarify the amount of money.

When Ms. L. arranged to go with them, the group robbed the money, which was determined to be more than 2.28 million USD, and then escaped. It is worth mentioning that after robbing the huge amount of money, the group of Loc, Anh, and Duy "abandoned" and cut off contact with Phuong.

After Phuong confessed to her mother and Mrs. L., on the afternoon of March 11, this woman took Phuong to the Criminal Police Department, Tay Ninh Provincial Police to report. Through the struggle, Phuong admitted to being the mastermind and was detained by the police for investigation.

Following the trail, on March 15, Tay Ninh Provincial Police in coordination with the Criminal Police Department, Ministry of Public Security raided a hotel in the new urban area of ​​Le Trong Tan, Duong Noi Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi, arresting Le Nguyen Binh. In the hotel room, the police seized nearly 1.96 million USD that Binh said was hidden by Loc, Anh, and Duy's group when they met Binh in Hanoi to receive the money.

Based on the investigation, on March 20, the police prosecuted Pham Ly Phuong and Le Nguyen Binh. The police also prosecuted Loc, Anh, and Duy for “Robbery”, but the subjects had fled, so a nationwide arrest warrant was issued.

Tay Ninh Provincial Police and the Criminal Police Department coordinated with police from many provinces and cities to track down the suspects. By noon on March 24, the police had surrounded a camp in Chu Se District, Gia Lai Province, and suddenly raided and arrested Loc, Anh, and Duy. The police also seized three cars that the group used as a means of escape.
