I will always remember the times I met you.

During his lifetime, Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang visited and worked with officials and people of Hai Duong, Thanh Mien district and his hometown Thanh Tung many times. Each time he visited, the Vice President left unforgettable memories with local officials and people.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Pham, 74 years old, from Dong village, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, former Chairman of Thanh Tung Commune People's Committee, remembers June 12, 1977, when Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang came to work with the leaders of Thanh Mien district. Early in the morning, commune officials were present at the district People's Committee hall to welcome him. "We stood in the last row of seats in the hall. From afar, we saw the Vice President in a very simple short-sleeved shirt and faded khaki pants. He smiled kindly and waved to everyone," Mr. Pham recalled.

That day, Mr. Pham was very impressed with the directives of Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang. “Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang is very interested in agricultural development and Party building. His directives at that time clearly demonstrated the thinking of a strategist with a long-term vision, very determined but also full of enthusiasm. According to the program, Comrade Nguyen Luong Bang would have a private meeting with the Thanh Tung Commune Party Committee, but due to time constraints, he took the opportunity to give instructions and take a souvenir photo with the commune cadres,” said Mr. Pham.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu in Dong village, 78 years old this year, 53 years of Party membership, recalled that during his lifetime, Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang visited his hometown many times. The Vice President's sister's family lived next door to his house, so he had the honor of meeting the Vice President many times. The time he remembered most was in 1969 - 1970, after comrade Nguyen Luong Bang was elected Vice President. "That day, when they learned that Uncle was visiting his hometown, the villagers crowded his yard. Uncle asked, "Do our people like socialism?". Everyone said "yes". Then he advised the villagers to actively increase production, build agricultural cooperatives...", Mr. Tu recalled.

Those who have met Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang are deeply impressed by his simple, open and friendly manner. Despite his high position and busy work, every time he returns to his hometown, he always takes the time to visit his neighbors; encourages and reminds the villagers to unite and bond.

Mirror of integrity

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tu, when he was young, he heard many stories about the example of thrift and integrity of Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang. That was around 1970 - 1976 when his father was the Party Secretary, Thanh Tung commune received two gifts from Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang, which were a radio and a stethoscope. "I was very impressed with Uncle Bang's integrity. Even though he was a high-ranking leader, the gift he gave to his homeland was extremely simple," Mr. Tu added.

In Thanh Tung commune, many people also remember and pass on stories about the thrift and integrity of Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang. That is the house he chose for his family, not large compared to the standard, located in a small street of Hanoi. Once when visiting his children in the evacuation area in Son Tay, he did not use the public car but went to Kim Lien bus station to queue up to buy bus tickets like everyone else... When comrade Nguyen Luong Bang passed away, his family voluntarily returned the villa at 5 Thien Quang street, Hai Ba Trung district (Hanoi) to the State...
