Seized more than 4,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes

On June 9, Trang Bom District Police are temporarily detaining Duong Thi Tiep and Nguyen Duy Thinh, both residing in Quang Tien Commune, Trang Bom District, to continue investigating their illegal trading.

According to initial information, at around 10:30 a.m. on June 7, Trang Bom District Police coordinated with Quang Tien Commune Police to administratively inspect a house in Quang Bien Hamlet, Quang Tien Commune, Trang Bom District, owned by Duong Thi Tiep.

At the time of the inspection, Nguyen Duy Thinh (Tieu's biological son) drove a motorbike to his mother's house. On the motorbike were 2 cardboard boxes containing more than 1,100 packs of smuggled cigarettes, JET, SCOTT and HERO brands. In addition, on the motorbike parked in Tiep's yard, there was 1 cardboard box containing 300 packs of JET cigarettes; in front of and in the living room, there were nearly 2,700 packs of cigarettes, JET, HERO, SCOTT and 555 brands. The police seized a total of more than 4,100 packs of smuggled cigarettes.

During the investigation, the subjects initially confessed that on June 5, Tiep contacted a person named Oanh (unknown background) in Ho Chi Minh City to order the smuggled cigarettes; from June 5 to June 7, Oanh sent the "goods" from the passenger bus to Tiep.

After receiving all the goods, on the morning of June 7, Tiep packed 400 packs of JET brand cigarettes, 600 packs of SCOTT brand cigarettes and 130 packs of HERO brand cigarettes into 2 cardboard boxes for Thinh to transport to National Highway 1 to send by passenger bus to Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province to resell for profit. At around 9:00 a.m. the same day, Thinh used a motorbike to transport the 2 cardboard boxes from Duong Thi Tiep's house to National Highway 1 to send but did not see the passenger bus so he turned back. When driving the car carrying cigarettes to Tiep's house, he was discovered and caught red-handed by the police.

Trang Bom District Police are continuing to investigate and handle the case according to regulations.
