Two of the three containers of cocaine came from Peru and Colombia, the remaining container is still being identified. All three containers were destined for Barcelona, Spain.
On September 30, the Panamanian National Navy-Air Force (Senan) said it had seized 4.4 tons of suspected cocaine hidden in three containers at a port in Colon province for transport to Spain.
Meanwhile, a source from the Panamanian Ministry of Security confirmed to the press that it was cocaine.
Senan's statement said two of the three containers came from Peru and Colombia, while the other was being identified. All three containers were destined for Barcelona, Spain.
Since the beginning of the year, Senan has seized about 60 tons of addictive substances in more than 100 anti-drug crime campaigns across the country.
Of the total seized drugs, more than 14.7 tons were discovered at the country's seaports. In 2023, Panamanian police seized 119 tons of drugs, down from the record of 138 tons in 2022.
Panama is currently considered a "transit point" for drugs from South America, mainly Colombia, the US and Europe.
