Türkiye: Natural gas explosion kills four and in critical condition

The explosion occurred at 2:43 p.m. (local time) at a business establishment on the ground floor of a building in Torbali district, killing four people and injuring at least 20 others.

On June 30, a natural gas explosion in Izmir province, western Türkiye, killed four people and injured at least 20 others.

State television TRT reported that the explosion occurred at 2:43 p.m. local time at a business establishment on the ground floor of a building in Torbali district.

Immediately after the explosion, emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene to treat the victims.

Of the 20 injured, 10 are in critical condition.

Firefighters also quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.

Izmir Governor Suleyman Elban confirmed that the explosion damaged 11 nearby buildings.

Mr. Elban added that to prevent safety risks, authorities have cut off the gas supply to the area and are evacuating residents and businesses.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
