Major Truong Hong Ky (born in 1981), Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Military Command of Song Cau Town (Phu Yen) died after bravely saving two drowning people.
On the evening of September 1, speaking with reporters, Colonel Luong Ke Diem, Commander of the Phu Yen Provincial Military Command, confirmed that Major Truong Hong Ky (born in 1981), Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Song Cau Town Military Command, had died after his brave actions in saving two drowning people.
At 4:30 p.m. on September 1, at Dong Be beach (Vinh Hoa village, Xuan Thinh commune, Song Cau town), two people were discovered being swept away from shore by waves. Major Truong Hong Ky quickly swam out to rescue them.
However, due to the big waves, Major Truong Hong Ky was exhausted and could not swim to shore. Afterwards, local people brought Major Truong Hong Ky to shore for first aid and transferred him to Song Cau Town Medical Center. Major Truong Hong Ky did not survive.
Colonel Luong Ke Diem affirmed that Major Truong Hong Ky's act of saving people while on duty was very brave.
The Provincial Military Command will verify and report to superiors to implement policies for Major Truong Hong Ky and his family according to regulations.
