Feng shui master uses "changing destiny" trick to cheat women out of money

On June 14, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced defendant Le Van Tinh (born in 1983, in Hoai Duc) to 10 years in prison for fraud and property appropriation.

According to the indictment, from November 8, 2021 to January 31, 2022, due to needing money to spend, Tinh came up with the idea of ​​appropriating the victims' money by introducing himself as a feng shui master who could read horoscopes and fortunes for others.

To make the victims trust and hand over their money, Tinh judged that the homeowners had "good fortune" and "a palace of land" (meaning good fortune in real estate business), but "this palace is stuck, they must invest money in buying and selling land to test the new palace of land to expand and stabilize, and earn a lot of money".

Le Van Tinh asked the "female donors" to contribute money to buy land to "open up prosperity", then he would sell it and return the principal and interest. With this trick, the defendant appropriated 858 million VND from the 3 victims.

One of the victims was Ms. Duong Thi L. (born in 1984, in Ha Dong). Around August 2021, an acquaintance introduced Tinh as a feng shui master who could read fortunes and horoscopes and could "change zodiac signs and numbers", so Ms. L. made an appointment with the defendant to ask for help.

Meeting the homeowner, Tinh said that Ms. L. had “shared land” but was stuck, and needed to buy land to “open the land palace” to earn more money and have a smooth job. According to the “feng shui master”, buying land did not require much, just a few square meters with other people was enough.

Le Van Tinh asked Ms. L. to perform the ceremony, then Ms. L. transferred 31 million VND to contribute money to buy land to "stabilize and expand the land".

In December 2021, Tinh took Ms. L. to the temple to ask for a fortune. After reading the fortune, the defendant said the fortune was “good”, but the homeowner needed to buy more land to expand and stabilize the “land palace”. Ms. L. agreed to contribute money to buy 5 more square meters of land, transferring 110 million VND to the “feng shui master” only to later find out that she had been scammed.

Another victim is Ms. Tran Thi H. (born in 1984, in Long Bien district). At the end of December 2021, through an acquaintance, Ms. H. met Tinh and had her horoscope read by a "feng shui master" and "opened the house and land palace".

When Tinh told Ms. H. to try to buy 5 square meters of land in Hoai Duc district, Ms. H. transferred 155 million VND to Tinh. After that, Tinh said he needed to "adjust the palace" to be better, so he asked Ms. H. to transfer more money. The total amount of money Ms. H. transferred to Tinh was 555 million VND.

Using the same trick as above, Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc B. (born in 1980, in Nam Tu Liem) was also scammed by a "feng shui master" and lost nearly 200 million VND.

After receiving the money from the victims, Tinh did not buy the land but appropriated it all for personal use. After appropriating the money, the defendant fled and was arrested on December 16, 2022, according to a wanted warrant.

During the investigation, Tinh confessed to the crime, consistent with the statements of the victims and witnesses.
