On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, the Red Cross Society nationwide mobilized more than 1.2 million gifts to give to people in difficult circumstances, helping them to have a warmer and more fulfilling Tet.
While every street corner across Vietnam is filled with songs celebrating the new year, in families with policies and difficulties, Tet is still full.
This is thanks to the Tet Charity program - an initiative of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, which is persistently implemented every Lunar New Year. Not only gifts, Tet Charity also brings messages of love, sharing and hope, like a warm breeze to cold alleys and homes lacking joy.
President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Bui Thi Hoa said the "Compassionate Tet" initiative was launched by the Central Society after 23 years of implementing "Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims."
On the occasion of the 2024 Lunar New Year, the Red Cross Society nationwide mobilized more than 1.2 million gifts to give to people in difficult circumstances, helping them to have a warmer and more fulfilling Tet. The "Compassionate Tet" movement was widely organized in localities, contributing to caring for and providing Tet for thousands of poor families, lonely elderly people, orphans, homeless children, people with serious illnesses, people with disabilities, victims of Agent Orange... to have the opportunity to enjoy spring and celebrate Tet.
This movement has mobilized the community, many organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to support and give meaningful and practical Tet gifts to local people; create funds to support the construction of more Red Cross houses for families with housing difficulties; organize free medical examination and medicine distribution activities.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has many activities to care for and support policy beneficiaries, social protection, households in difficult circumstances, especially poor households, helping people to celebrate a warm, prosperous and meaningful Tet. The total estimated budget for organizing activities and taking care of Tet is more than 915 billion VND, an increase of 34 billion VND compared to the year of Quy Mao 2023.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Huynh Le Nhu Trang, during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, the city will take good care of Tet for policy beneficiaries, retirees, social security beneficiaries, the elderly, orphans, members of poor households, near-poor households and people in difficult circumstances in the area with about 475,459 meals.
As a mountainous and border province with over 83% ethnic minorities, Lang Son always cares for people with meritorious services, policy beneficiaries, and people in difficult circumstances in society, especially ethnic minorities. Lang Son organized a charity Tet program to present 12 gifts to policy families and 200 gifts to 200 union members and workers in difficult circumstances.
At the Program, many activities are organized such as humanitarian medical examination and treatment, free medicine for people, gift vouchers for poor households, etc. and spring and Tet activities. Whether in big cities or remote rural areas, the Vietnam Red Cross is always willing to organize and carry out charitable Tet activities.
These activities not only bring joy and warmth to those who receive help, but also create positive impacts on society; thereby, demonstrating and nurturing the spirit of mutual love and compassion, deepening human values in the community.
In the northern mountainous provinces, Tet Charity is often associated with activities in villages. The program organizes the distribution of blankets, clothes, and food, as well as cultural lessons and folk games for children. The combination of material support and cultural education helps people here have a more complete and rich Tet.
In the Central provinces, which are often affected by natural disasters such as floods, Tet Charity is not only an opportunity to share, but also an opportunity to rebuild and recover. On the occasion of Tet Charity, the Red Cross Society donated charity houses, built collective kitchens, and boarding kitchens for schools.
The activities of the Charity Tet are extremely rich, effective, innovative, creative, suitable and spread strongly in the community such as building "Charity Houses", "Gourd Funds", "Pots of Loving Porridge", "Lunches and Milk for Preschool Children in Remote Areas", "Healthy Leaf Cabinets", "Charity Boxes", "Charity Tet", "Zero-VND Tet Market", "Fairy Tale Mid-Autumn Festival", "Children's Day for Poor Children".
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed that this is a very practical and humane program, creating community cohesion, joining hands to spread love and compassion, bringing people a warm and joyful Tet atmosphere.
In recent years, Tet Nhan Ai has also aimed to develop sustainable programs to deal with new challenges such as climate change, natural disasters, and epidemics.
The Red Cross does not only look at immediate needs, but also focuses on building and strengthening communities to cope with long-term difficulties. Depending on each year and each locality, the program's activities may vary but do not stop at providing material support. These activities also contribute to promoting the spirit of mutual love and concern for the community, while raising the sense of social responsibility in each individual.
Here, Tet is not only an occasion for reunion, but also an opportunity for each heart to turn to each other, for kindness to be expressed through practical actions. Charity Tet is not only a regular charity program, but also a profound expression of the culture of sharing and caring for the community during the traditional Tet holiday.
In the brilliant picture of spring, charitable Tet activities draw delicate strokes, colors of compassion and empathy, adding beauty to Tet. From bustling cities to peaceful countrysides, from spacious houses to poor shelters, charitable Tet has become an indispensable part of every Vietnamese spring, a noble gesture that every Vietnamese person is proud of and cherishes.
