The Syrian government has declared three days of national mourning from October 6 to commemorate the soldiers and civilians killed in a brutal terrorist attack on a graduation ceremony of cadets at a military academy in Homs province.
The Syrian government's statement on October 6 said: "Flags will be flown at half-mast throughout the Syrian Arab Republic as well as at all Syrian embassies and diplomatic missions abroad for three days, starting from October 6."
Earlier on the morning of October 6, a funeral was held for the soldiers killed in the terrorist attack in front of the military hospital in Homs province. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, the 89 people killed in the terrorist attack are not the final number, as many were seriously injured.
In a related development, on the same day, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran, General Mohammad Bagheri, strongly condemned the above-mentioned terrorist attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Syria, affirming that Tehran is ready to join the joint fight against terrorism with Damascus.
General Bagheri pointed out that this crime once again exposed the evil, murderous and inhuman nature of terrorists, and stressed Iran's determination to continue cooperating with Syria in the fight against terrorism.
Nearly 100 people were killed and about 300 others injured in the attack on October 5 in the city of Homs. Among those killed and injured were children and women. The attack in Syria was carried out by an explosives-laden drone that Syrian officials said was launched from an area in the northern Homs province, which is controlled by anti-government armed groups.
