Syrian authorities announced that they had just foiled an attack plot by gunmen linked to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) organization.
State news agency SANA on January 11 quoted a source from the Syrian intelligence agency as saying that the gunmen planned to bomb a Shiite Muslim Sayyida Zainab mosque on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.
Intelligence and security forces successfully neutralized the attack.
According to sources, the suspects were arrested before carrying out the attack.
