On the final day of the 2024 summer transfer window, Raheem Sterling reached an agreement with Arsenal, while Jadon Sancho moved from Man Utd to Chelsea on loan.

The Arsenal-Sterling deal is for one year, with no option to buy. The Gunners will not pay a loan fee and will pay less than 50% of Sterling's salary. Under his contract with Chelsea until 2027, the English striker earns $430,000 per week.

Sterling arrived at Arsenal's headquarters for a medical examination, but was unable to play in the match against Brighton in the third round of the Premier League today, August 31.

On transfer deadline day, Arsenal were offered Sterling and Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman. In the end, coach Mikel Arteta decided to go for Sterling as the two had worked together at Man City, when he was Pep Guardiola's assistant.

He is Arsenal's third signing this summer, following Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad and Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. The Emirates Stadium club also bought goalkeeper David Raya from Brentford, after a loan deal for the 2023-2024 season.

Sterling was born in 1994, grew up in Liverpool's academy, and started playing for the first team since he was 18. He joined Man City in 2015, then moved to Chelsea for $61.5 million, scoring 14 goals in 59 matches in all competitions. Sterling scored 123 goals in 379 matches for the top three teams in the Premier League, ranking in the top 20 scorers in the league.

In the opposite direction, Chelsea recruited Jadon Sancho on loan with a mandatory buyout clause for $30 million in the summer of 2025.. At Man Utd, Sancho fell out with coach Erik ten Hag and was loaned to Dortmund for the second half of last season. The two sides made up during the summer training camp, but Sancho was still not included in the squad for the first two rounds of the Premier League, and no longer appears to be in the club's plans. In the Super Cup, Sancho was one of two players who missed a penalty, causing Man Utd to lose to Man City.

However, Chelsea failed to agree a deal to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, and ended the summer with 13 new signings. Before Sancho, they signed Pedro Neto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Caleb Wiley, Renato Veiga, Marc Guiu, Joao Felix, Mike Penders and Estevao Willian.

Sancho made a strong impression at Dortmund with 50 goals and 65 assists, forcing Man Utd to spend 107 million USD to recruit him in the summer of 2021. But the English player did not meet expectations at Old Trafford, scoring 9 goals and assisting 6 times in 58 matches in the Premier League.

He is the 13th player to leave Man Utd this summer, following Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Anthony Martial, Raphael Varane, Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Fernandez, Brandon Williams, Omari Forson, Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri.
