The death toll from a landslide that struck southern China on February 6 has risen to 92, while rescuers are still searching for dozens of missing people.
Heavy rains that lasted for several days caused landslides in Maco town in the southern province of Davao de Oro on the evening of February 6, burying many houses, vehicles and dozens of people. The Philippine army and armed forces have been mobilized to participate in rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas. Davao de Oro provincial authorities said that 36 people are still missing after the landslide disaster.
According to the World Risk Index 2022, the Philippines is the most disaster-prone country in the world, with frequent strong storms causing flash floods and landslides. The Southeast Asian country has also witnessed many earthquakes and been severely affected by volcanic eruptions.
