West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta faces a heavy penalty after being accused by the Football Association (FA) of match-fixing.
On May 24, the FA announced that Lucas Paqueta had shown signs of match-fixing in four Premier League matches from 2022 to 2023. In these matches, the Brazilian midfielder was said to have intentionally received a yellow card "for the wrong purpose of influencing the betting market".
The matches in which Lucas Paqueta was accused were in the confrontations between West Ham and Leicester City (November 2022), Aston Villa (March 2023), Leeds (May 2023), Bournemouth (August 2023).
In response to the FA's accusations, the midfielder spoke out on social media. He said: "I am extremely surprised and disappointed that the FA has made this accusation. During the 9-month investigation, I have cooperated fully with them and provided all the information I have. I deny all these accusations and will fight to the end to prove my innocence.
