Samsung may launch a tri-fold smartphone in 2025

According to Korean media, Samsung could launch a smartphone with a triple-folding screen in 2025. However, the exact timing depends on the final decision of Mobile eXperience, the company's foldable device division.

Previously, some sources also said that Samsung did not announce the product early because it wanted to focus on the goal of reducing the thinness and lightness of the current foldable smartphone. Meanwhile, Huawei sold the Mate XT model for $ 2,800 in mid-September.

The source also said that Samsung's OLED screen orders have decreased by 10% compared to the plan due to lower-than-expected user demand for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6.

Samsung Display's total foldable smartphone panel shipments in 2024 are expected to be 12 million, down nearly 40% from 20 million last year. Of these, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 will account for 8 million, lower than the expected 10 million. The rest will be supplied to partners such as Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo.

Samsung is expected to boost sales by launching a low-cost Galaxy Z Flip model to reach more customers. However, Sammobile quoted an unnamed Samsung leader as saying that they have no intention of announcing a low-cost Galaxy Z Fold.

Previously, the company was said to have tested the Z Fold6 FE but did not achieve the expected results, because the test model was not thinner and lighter than Chinese competitors.

As a result, Samsung decided to abandon the project, instead introducing the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a special version with a 200-megapixel main camera and a price of $ 2,000.
