Women's Unions at all levels of Tu Ky district have had many effective models contributing to the goal of the district meeting new rural standards this year.

Cadres and women's union members of Tan Ky commune clean up the environment

Clean environment

Over the years,Women's Union (WU)Tu Ky district has guided and directed all levels of the district's women's association to promote the implementation of two campaigns: Training the four moral qualities of Vietnamese women "Confidence, self-respect, loyalty, and responsibility" and "5 no's, 3 clean's" associated with the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas". Implementing these campaigns, many models have brought about practical results, contributing to the completion of the criteria for building new rural areas, especially environmental criteria.

For more than ten years, 6 women's waste collection groups with 18 members in Tan Ky commune have made efforts to collect waste from 10,000 people in the commune. As a densely populated area, the amount of waste is very large, so the members of the group maintain collecting 1-2 times/day. Although the support level is still low (1.2-1.5 million VND/person/month), the members of the collection group are enthusiastic and responsible for their work to ensure the environment in the commune is always clean.

In Tan Ky commune, there is also a model of "Women's Flower Road" which is evaluated by the district Women's Union as one of the typical models of the district. The commune Women's Union and its branches plant and take care of 6 km of flower roads including flowers such as pearl necklace, periwinkle, five-color, ten o'clock, purple oyster... Periodically 1-2 times a month and on anniversaries, the commune Women's Union mobilizes cadres and members to clean up village roads, alleys, clear bushes, cut grass, and take care of flower roads, each session has 40-50 women participating.

Similar to Tan Ky commune, rows of peanut flowers, purple evening primroses, chrysanthemums, periwinkles, etc. planted and cared for by the Women's Union of Quang Khai commune are blooming brilliantly on the main road of the commune and in the villages of Vu Xa, Tan Quang, and Nhu Tinh. Planting and caring for the flower roads are assigned to organizations, but the total length of the flower roads undertaken by women is the longest compared to other organizations.

Promoting the implementation of campaigns associated with new rural construction, from 2016 to present, Women's Unions at all levels in the district have built 74 models of "Self-managed Women's Roads", 35 models of Women's Unions or groups "Women classifying waste at home". All 23 Women's Unions in communes and towns have implemented flower road and flower bed models...

Poverty reduction

Not only environmental criteria, the Women's Union at all levels of Tu Ky district has contributed to the good implementation of poor household criteria.

Since 2020, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (born in 1955) in Kim Xuyen village, Chi Minh commune has escaped poverty. Previously, the mother and daughter lived in a dilapidated tiled house of only about 15 square meters, with no kitchen or toilet, and had to rely on neighbors. Ms. Van has suffered from many illnesses for a long time, and her son's health is poor, so work is sometimes available and sometimes not. In 2019, her family received support to build a "warm house of love". The house is about 60 square meters wide, with a construction cost of about 150 million VND, of which the District Women's Union allocated 30 million VND from the District "Warm House of Love" Fund; the Women's Union and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chi Minh commune supported 5 million VND, the rest was helped by relatives and the family borrowed more. Ms. Lien was also able to borrow 50 million VND from the capital source guaranteed by the Commune Women's Union to develop the economy. “Thanks to the support of the commune Women's Union and local organizations and authorities, my children and I have a new house and capital to develop the family economy, reducing difficulties,” said Ms. Van.

From 2016 to present, the association's facilities in the district have helped 825 households escape poverty according to multidimensional criteria in many forms, with a total value of 17.8 billion VND, contributing to reducing the overall poverty rate of the district from 7.7% (in 2016) to 1.96% (in 2020).

During the same period, the credit unions at all levels, together with the Bank for Social Policies and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, lent nearly VND267 billion to over 11,000 households for economic development. They coordinated to mobilize 915 households to donate 2,724 m2 of residential land and land 03, supported 2,284 working days and VND6.2 billion to build rural and intra-field roads. The district Women's Union supported the construction of 6 "charity houses" for poor members with a total amount of VND180 million. The unions at all levels in the district supported 640 households to build and repair sanitary facilities; mobilized cadres and members to support thousands of working days, contributing to ensuring the criteria of no more temporary or dilapidated houses... Actively maintained and expanded 63 models of art and sports clubs to improve women's health.

With the above practical work, the Women's Union at all levels of Tu Ky district has actively contributed to helping the district meet the criteria of a new rural district.
