Air pollution makes everything blurry

The automatic environmental monitoring system of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment shows that the air quality index (AQI) in many areas of the city such as Thanh Xuan, Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem, Hai Ba Trung... is at a bad level.

On some days, the AQI index in some areas such as West Lake and Bac Tu Liem exceeded 320, which is very dangerous and also the highest warning level for air pollution affecting health.

Along with that, the PM2.5 fine dust index in Hanoi is also very high, from 80-130 μg/m3 (recommended by the World Health Organization is 5 µg/m3).

Not only Hanoi, air pollution is also recorded in many localities in the Northern Delta such as Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam... with AQI index and PM2.5 fine dust at very dangerous levels.

According to environmental experts, air quality in Hanoi and many northern provinces has been poor for many days due to weather changes, causing pollutants to not disperse high up but to concentrate close to the ground.

Along with that, activities in transportation, industry, construction, and people increase at the end of the year, causing waste generation and increasing sources.

According to the Ministry of Health, when the AQI index is at a bad and hazardous level, people should limit outdoor activities or participate in strenuous physical activities.

Air pollution in many northern provinces and cities is forecast to last until March 2025.
