Raising earthworms combined with rice production and product consumption earns a profit of 618 million VND/ha

In 2023, the project was implemented in An Thanh commune (Tu Ky) with 3 participating households on a scale of 10 hectares. The Provincial Agricultural Extension Center supported households with 10 million rươi seeds and 500kg of ZEO BACILLUS microbiological products. The Center selected Ha Tien Rươi Specialty Company Limited in An Dinh village, An Thanh commune as a unit participating in the product consumption chain for households participating in the project; selected ST25 rice variety to be planted in the model and compared with the hom rice variety.

Through the implementation of the model in Hai Duong, it shows that the yield of rice and earthworms is higher than the model without adding earthworm seeds and microorganisms. Specifically, the earthworm yield reached 1,940 kg/ha; the rice yield reached nearly 5 tons/ha. In terms of economic efficiency, the profit from the model is more than 618 million VND/ha, 89 million VND higher than the control model.

The project implementation contributes to assessing the current status of the province's endemic earthworm area; protecting and developing endemic aquatic species of high economic value in the locality, building and developing the earthworm farming industry in the area.
