In the WNBA draft, Truong Thao Vy (Kaylynne Truong) was drafted into the Washington Mystics team in the 21st round. The 32nd SEA Games champion became the first Vietnamese female player in history to participate in the world's most prestigious professional basketball tournament.

This is a worthy reward for Thao Vy, after a series of impressive performances in the American College Sports Tournament (NCAA). The Vietnamese-American athlete has continuously shined in the Gonzaga jersey, thereby attracting the attention of scouts from the professional club Washington Mystics.

Thao Vy and her twin sister Truong Thao My were born and raised in the US but often return to contribute to the Vietnam women's basketball team. The couple is often called the "Truong Twins" by fans. In the WNBA selection series, Thao My was also on the list of players but was not recruited by any team.

Sisters Thao Vy and Thao My helped the Vietnamese women's basketball team win a silver medal at the 31st SEA Games (2022). At the 32nd SEA Games held nearly a year ago in Cambodia, Thao Vy, Thao My and their teammates successfully changed the color of the medals. The "Truong Twins" played an important role in the excellent Vietnamese basketball team that won the first SEA Games gold medal.

The Truong Twins' father is Vietnamese. Their mother is also of Vietnamese descent. In 2019, the two talented girls received a sports scholarship from Gonzaga University and competed in the NCAA Women's Division 1 tournament.

Before Thao Vy, a few other stars of Vietnamese origin also shined in the number one basketball league for men (NBA), namely Johnny Juzang of Utah Jazz and Jaylin Williams of Oklahoma City Thunder. William shared that he is very curious about Vietnamese culture but left open the possibility of playing for the national team.
