On the fertile and rich land of Hai Duong, each farmer has a different direction to exploit the full value and potential of the land, enrich themselves and help others, contributing to building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland.

Under the dry sunshine of an early winter day, we visited the farm of Mr. Vuong Dinh Xuat's family in Nam Chinh commune (Nam Sach), one of 20 farmers awarded by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee in the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty in the period 2022-2024".

Before our eyes is a farm of more than 4 hectares, neatly planned, and shaded by green trees. Mr. Xuat has been farming for a long time, at first only raising fish, pigs and trading on a small scale due to limited investment capital. In 2014, after the local authorities carried out land consolidation and land exchange, he also had quite a bit of capital, so he rented the converted land to expand the farm.

Mr. Vuong Dinh Xuat in Nam Chinh commune (Nam Sach) applies many modern techniques to his farm, so it is highly effective and easy.

After nearly ten years of construction and development, under his hard-working hands, the wilderness and lowlands have turned into a prosperous area with great potential. Currently, Mr. Xuat has a farm raising 40 sows. He raises all the piglets born by the sows into pigs for meat, about 300 each year. He also raises 6,000 chickens per year, 1,000 super egg ducks and 15 ponds, of which 3 are for raising fish. With such an investment scale, each year after deducting expenses, Mr. Xuat's family earns a profit of over 2 billion VND.

Talking about the secret of animal husbandry, Mr. Xuat sums it up in two words: “passion”. Since childhood, Mr. Xuat has been passionate about animal husbandry, especially fish farming. “I don’t know how, but when I look at a chicken or a fish, I immediately know their health condition and what medicine I need to use to treat it effectively. I know the characteristics of each animal like the back of my hand,” Mr. Xuat shared.

With that passion and diligence, all the work on the farm undertaken by the couple is always scientific, careful, and highly productive. He has applied many technical advances in animal husbandry such as automatic machines for feeding fish, pigs, drinking water, cleaning cages, etc., so he still has a lot of time to rest and do other work.

In Hai Duong, the movement of farmers who are good at production and business has created "billion-dollar farmers" like Mr. Xuat. Each person has a different path, but the common goal is to enrich themselves and create jobs for many local workers.

In 2024, Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative in Vu Xa village, Thuong Quan commune (Kinh Mon) was honored to be recognized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union as a typical cooperative nationwide, thanks to the association's propaganda, mobilization, guidance, and support in establishing it. This result must be attributed to the efforts, perseverance, and persistence of Mr. Bui Van Thanh, Director of the cooperative.

Arrowroot powder of Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative in Thuong Quan Commune (Kinh Mon) is consumed domestically and internationally, affirming its quality by being recognized by the People's Committee of Hai Duong province as a 4-star OCOP product.

Mr. Thanh's hometown and neighboring communes and wards have a tradition of growing cassava but only sell the tubers, the leftovers are used to make flour. During the process of trading cassava tubers, Mr. Thanh saw that the demand for cassava flour was very high and that it was necessary to go deeper into processing to fully exploit the efficiency and value of cassava tubers, so he decided to invest in this field since 2016. Mr. Thanh brought the product to market at trade fairs, trade promotions, and practiced selling on e-commerce platforms...

Increasing in scale in terms of product quantity and customers, in 2020, Mr. Thanh established Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative with 8 members. He cooperated with farmers to build a concentrated cassava growing area using organic methods on a scale of 10 hectares; mobilized capital from family and cooperative members to build a 1,500 m2 product processing, packaging and preparation area.2, investing in modern machinery helps reduce labor and increase productivity such as cassava washing machines, filter tanks, multi-function dryers...

Every year, Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative produces dozens of tons of pure cassava flour. Mr. Thanh has joined hands with many large enterprises such as ATC Vietnam Import-Export Service Trading Joint Stock Company, Tuong Lai Food Technology Co., Ltd. to consume large quantities. Even Thanh Nhan pure cassava flour products have been consumed in some countries such as Japan, China... The cooperative's total revenue in 2024 is over 15 billion VND, minus expenses, the profit is about 3 billion VND.

Not only enriching his family, Mr. Thanh's cooperative also creates jobs for 10-15 workers with an income of 9-15 million VND/person/month. From a small-scale production household to a strong one, with products consumed abroad, Mr. Thanh always keeps his reputation in production. Mr. Thanh said: "For us, product quality is the core criterion, so in the production process, we always pay attention to food safety and hygiene. The current products are produced according to organic processes, packaging and labels have been registered for intellectual property and the products have been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as 4-star OCOP products".

As for Mr. Nguyen Quang Ty in Thanh Xuan commune (Thanh Ha), the secret to getting rich is to boldly change to suit market demand. Previously, his family had 6 hectares but all of them grew guava. Although guava brought a stable income of 300-400 million VND/year, he still boldly converted 5 hectares to raising sandworms.

The diversified model of Mr. Nguyen Quang Ty's family in Thanh Xuan commune (Thanh Ha) brings him an income of billions of VND/year.

"At first, people in the village and commune talked a lot, but once I was determined, I believed I would succeed. It took me a lot of time, effort, and money to convert guava fields to raising sandworms. The land did not disappoint people. After nearly ten years of renovation, my family's sandworm fields have now produced stable harvests with a yield of over 3.2 tons in 2023. After deducting expenses, the guava garden and sandworm fields bring in billions of dong in income," Mr. Ty affirmed.

The above are just 3 of many Hai Duong farmers whose profits from agricultural production activities reach billions of VND/year. In 2024, Hai Duong had 176,154 farming households registered to become good production and business households. As a result, 122,565 households achieved this title at all levels, accounting for nearly 70% of registered households. Of which, 210 households were at the central level, 3,295 households at the provincial level, 19,852 households at the district level, and 99,208 households at the grassroots level. From the movement, more and more examples of good production and business farmers with models of high and sustainable economic efficiency have emerged. They have greatly contributed to changing the appearance of their homeland and making it more spacious.

In Hai Duong, farmers' enrichment models are very diverse.

To achieve that, in addition to the efforts, creativity in finding new directions, bold investment, and application of technical advances of each individual, there is also the companionship of Farmers' Associations at all levels and local authorities in supporting loans for production, business, planning production areas, and land lease.

Mr. Bui Van To, Chairman of Thanh Xuan Commune People's Committee (Thanh Ha) said that the locality has planned and completed procedures to convert nearly 100 hectares in Soi Giai area of Xuan Ang village from growing guava and short-term crops to raising sandworms. At first, many people did not agree because guava trees were yielding stable harvests. However, the locality still persistently mobilized people, coordinated to open many training courses, transfer techniques and organize for people to visit some models inside and outside the district.

The commune allocated the budget and together with the people invested more than ten billion VND to build infrastructure and roads, so traveling is more convenient than before. "Thanks to that, many people have agreed and supported the conversion. Up to now, we have assessed the economic efficiency of the area raising earthworms and clams, which is 2-3 times higher than before. The commune currently has about 4 farming households with an income of billions, and there are still several hundred million quite a lot. That shows that the government's orientation plays a very important role in supporting farmers to get rich," said Mr. Ty.

Training, technology transfer... are measures to equip members and farmers with additional knowledge of agricultural production.

Together with the local government, the Provincial Farmers' Association also has many activities to support farmers. In recent years, the association has built models of points of contact, professional farmer associations for production and consumption of safe agricultural products, products with packaging, and origin traceability stamps; organized training, transferred science and technology, guided farmers in applying digital technology in introducing and consuming agricultural products, propagated and mobilized the replication of effective economic models... Thanks to that, many new models and techniques have been applied by farmers in production, contributing to significantly increasing income.

Farmers' Associations at all levels have coordinated and guaranteed with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Bank for Social Policies to lend over VND3,000 billion to 32,783 farmer households. The Provincial Farmers' Support Fund also has over VND105 billion for 3,106 households to borrow.

Hai Duong Farmers' Association always accompanies and supports members

Not only that, when farmers encounter difficulties, the Provincial Farmers' Association also promptly encourages, shares and partially supports them to overcome. The Provincial Farmers' Support Fund Executive Board has organized an appraisal and extended the debt for 12 months for 32 households that borrowed capital due to storm No. 3 with a total loan of over 1.1 billion VND. Propose the Executive Board and the Central Standing Committee of the Association to extend the debt and exempt fees for 12 months. for 33 households with a total loan capital of 1.3 billion VND.

The associations at all levels actively promoted and mobilized organizations and benefactors to support money and necessities, and promptly organized visits, encouraged and gave gifts to farmer members in areas affected by storm No. 3. The associations at all levels supported the connection to consume 76.4 tons of agricultural products such as melons, grapefruits, lemons, caged fish, poultry, etc.; received and distributed to farmer members 287 kg of various vegetable seeds.

"All these activities demonstrate the concern, companionship, and sharing of farmers' associations at all levels with their members. In recent years, the movement of good farmers in production and business in Hai Duong has developed, spread strongly, and increasingly gone into depth.,"It motivates thousands of households to strive to become rich legitimately. The number of rich farmer households is always higher year after year. Every year, Hai Duong has exemplary farmer households that receive the title of Excellent Vietnamese Farmer recognized by the Central Association," affirmed Mr. Pham Duc Hoi, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association.

With what has been achieved, surely in the coming years, the movement of good farmers and businessmen in Hai Duong will reap many successes, with many more farmer billionaires right in their homeland. They contribute to turning remote, low-lying, and inefficient lands into fertile lands with great potential.
