Lam Dao Trading Company Limited produces and sells several tons of bean sprouts soaked in banned substances every day, of which Bach Hoa Xanh alone takes about 300 kg.
On December 29, Dak Lak Provincial Police announced the statements of Lam Van Dao, 34 years old; Vu Duy Tu, 33 years old; Nguyen Van Quynh, 51 years old and Nguyen Van Hao, 36 years old who were recently arrested for violating food safety regulations.
Dao is the owner of Lam Dao Trading Company Limited, which consists of two facilities, producing and selling several tons of bean sprouts soaked in the banned substance 6-Benzylaminopurine (slang for "candy water") every day, of which Bach Hoa Xanh alone takes about 300 kg.
Dao Khai was taught the craft of making bean sprouts by many people, using "candy water" to soak the bean sprouts so that they have few roots, thick stems, and are beautiful. This person signed a contract to supply Bach Hoa Xanh from the beginning of May. The packaging is printed with the company's label, a 2-day expiration date, and a recommendation not to use damaged goods.
"Because the market is competitive, I use candy water. If the market was completely clean, I would also like to make clean prices," Dao told the investigator.
There are also 2 production facilities, Vu Duy Tu said that his "brother" taught him how to make and buy "candy water" online to soak bean sprouts, about 2-5 boxes per batch. Tu's facility produces about 2.2 tons of bean sprouts every day, leaving them for trucks to pick up and take to the districts.
The defendant also admitted that he knew that this banned substance would affect consumers' health if used for a period of time, but because "the brokers at the market always ask for good quality products, the facility had to do so." "I know my actions are wrong, I hope the law will be lenient so that I have a chance to start my life over again," Tu said.
Previously, during the process of monitoring on social networks, the Economic Police Department of Dak Lak Police (PC03) discovered the Southern Bean Sprouts Association and the Bean Sprouts Association. There are signs of violating food safety regulations.
Simultaneously raiding and inspecting 6 production facilities in the area, the police discovered that in addition to using ingredients such as green beans, lime, and well water, the 4 suspects also used a colorless liquid, the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine.
According to the police, this banned substance, if introduced into the body, will have adverse effects on health; inhalation or long-term skin contact can cause low birth weight, hydrocephalus and birth defects; ingestion of large amounts can cause death.
However, these facilities still regularly use the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine to mix into the water to soak and incubate bean sprouts, helping to shorten the roots, make the stems larger and fatter, increase weight and have a beautiful appearance.
At the scene, the authorities seized 20,357 kg of bean sprouts soaked in the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine, which were sold on the market for about 400 million VND; 37 cans containing 135 liters of banned substances (equivalent to producing 675 tons of finished products, sold for about 18.7 billion VND).
Initially, the investigation agency determined that in 2024, this group sold about 2,900 tons of bean sprouts soaked in the chemical 6-Benzylaminopurine to the market, an average of about 8-10 tons per day.
