About the payment method and payment level

When participating in health insurance, students register at the educational institution or school where they are studying. Students can choose to pay health insurance periodically in 3 ways: 3 months, 6 months, 12 months.

The amount of health insurance for students (after deducting the State budget support), specifically: If students pay every 3 months, the payment is: 170,100 VND; If students pay every 6 months, the payment is: 340,200 VND; If students pay every 12 months, the payment is: 680,400 VND.

According to Vietnam Social Security, in recent yearshealth insurance policyhas really entered life and promoted effectiveness in comprehensive health care for the young generation.

The rate of students participating in health insurance is higher year after year and approaching the target of 100% coverage. In the 2022-2023 school year, the country will have about 18.8 million students participating in health insurance, reaching more than 97% of the total number of students.

In the first 8 months of 2023 alone, more than 5 million students nationwide went to see a doctor for medical examination and treatment under health insurance, which was paid by the fund with an amount of more than 2,174 billion VND.

In the past, the health insurance fund has paid for many patients who are students with incurable and chronic diseases such as kidney failure, cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc. with treatment costs ranging from tens of millions to hundreds of millions of VND, and in many cases, billions of VND have been paid.

About medical examination and treatment registration

Students participating in health insurance have the right to register for initial medical examination and treatment at one of the health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities at the commune, district and equivalent levels according to regulations. They can choose and change the place of initial medical examination and treatment registration at the beginning of each quarter.

In case of emergency: students can be examined and treated at any medical facility and must present their health insurance card and photo identification before leaving the hospital to enjoy health insurance benefits according to regulations.

Health insurance benefits

In case of medical examination and treatment under health insurance at the original registration place and completing all procedures for students with health insurance card with benefit code 4, they will receive 80% of medical examination and treatment costs.

In case of medical examination and treatment under health insurance not in the right line: The patient does not have a referral letter but presents complete medical examination and treatment procedures under health insurance, and will be paid by the health insurance fund within the scope, benefit level and rate according to regulations.

Card validity period

Firstly, health insurance cards are newly issued or renewed annually for students of general education, higher education, and vocational education institutions.

For first graders: Health insurance card validity starts from October 1st of the first year of primary school.

For 12th grade students: Card is valid until September 30 of the school year.

For first-year students of the course: The card is valid from the time of admission, except for the case of a 12th grade student's card which is still valid.

Final year students: Health insurance card is valid until the last day of the month the course ends.

Second, the value of the health insurance card corresponds to the amount of health insurance premium paid by the number of months the student has participated.
