The ancient house of Ha Sung of the Vu family (Lung Tao commune) is considered one of the oldest houses in Ha Giang, but is now degraded and needs to be preserved and restored.

The ancient house named Ha Sung is over a hundred years old and is located in Ha Sung village, Lung Tao commune (less than 3km from Sa Phin intersection, Dong Van, Ha Giang). The house is built on a high mound overlooking the valley, the entrance is paved with stones, and has an appearance quite similar to the Meo King's mansion.

The house was built with a fusion of Mong and Chinese architecture, consisting of 3 blocks.

The main door of the house is made of wood with a high threshold, an architecture familiar to the Mong people. Two large square blocks of stone at the foot of the gate pillars are carved with elaborate patterns that are no longer clear due to time. In particular, the porch roof is covered with yin-yang tiles, which are intricately carved and highly aesthetic.

The Ha Sung ancient house is over 100 years old, owned by the Vu family. There is very little information about this house. People in the area only know that it has been built by a group of craftsmen from South China (China) for 7 generations. After the Vu family house was built, the group of craftsmen built the Meo King's mansion, so the architecture of the two buildings is quite similar.

The entire house consists of three large blocks joined together, in which the two houses on the left and right sides are horizontally recessed, the middle house protrudes forward. According to the locals, it resembles the shape of an eagle spreading its wings.

In the middle of the main house is a skylight, surrounded by rooms: bedrooms, living room, kitchen... All the walls have the "moulded wall" structure of ethnic people. In addition, the landing, balcony and hallway are made of precious wood.

Poppy motifs appeared everywhere in the house, from the wooden beams to the stone pillars. At that time, only powerful families had the right to grow and sell opium. In the middle of the yard was a bathtub carved from a single block of stone, a testament to the wealth of the homeowner.

The living room in the middle of the house has an ancient altar, the altar's legs are shaped like goat legs, jet black, covered with dust. The second floor is where food is stored.

Currently, this is the home of four Mong families. According to Mr. Vu Sua Bu (80 years old), the house is over a hundred years old and has never been renovated or repaired. Looking at the architecture, it can be seen that the previous owner of the house must have been an influential figure in the region and had a close relationship with the Meo King Vuong Chinh Duc.

Smoke from the kitchen still rises above the moss-covered yin-yang tiled roofs. The life of many generations in this house is completely separate from the outside world, slow and full of nostalgia.

Over time, many parts of the house have seriously deteriorated, the peeling walls are at risk of collapsing at any time. The most urgent task now is to come up with a plan to preserve and restore this valuable historical building.
