With solidarity and consensus, many people in Lai Vu commune, Kim Thanh district (Hai Duong) did not hesitate to donate dozens of square meters of valuable residential land to expand traffic routes.
Ready to demolish the project
After self-assessing that it meets the conditions to reach the advanced new rural finish line in 2023, Lai Vu commune (Kim Thanh) is continuing to complete the criteria for a type V urban area. The commune must continue to expand a number of roads, including 1 km of commune road.
Mr. Bui Duy Quang's family is located right on the main road of the commune. To ensure the criteria of a type V urban area, in early 2024, Lai Vu commune mobilized families to donate land to widen the road surface to 6.5 - 7 m. Land in Lai Vu currently has a market price of over 10 million VND/m2, but for the common good, Mr. Quang's family did not hesitate to destroy the entire surrounding wall and yard to donate nearly 30 m2 of land to the locality. Along with donating land, Mr. Quang also actively participated with the village, hamlet, and mass organizations to mobilize people to donate land to build roads.
Next to Mr. Quang's house is Mr. Bui Bach Hung's family. Mr. Hung's family's land is adjacent to two roads, one on the main road of the commune, the other on the alley. Knowing that the commune has a policy of widening the road, Mr. Hung's family voluntarily demolished all the walls, shop sheds in front and the surrounding wall next to the alley to donate more than 20 square meters of land to the commune. "We are very supportive of widening the road so that people and vehicles can travel more conveniently. Although the family has to spend their own money to hire people and machinery to demolish it, then hire workers to rebuild it, but for the common good, we are still willing," Mr. Hung said.
Along the road to Hop Nhat and Minh Thanh villages in the commune, we saw many excavators and bulldozers being hired by local people to demolish constructions and clear the ground for land donation. The family of Mrs. Bui Thi Thanh in Hop Nhat village was one of the first households to voluntarily demolish the surrounding wall and donate land. Mrs. Thanh said that in order for the commune to have space to expand the road, her family donated about 20 square meters of land, not including the cost of demolishing and rebuilding the wall.
For the common goal
The main road of the commune is nearly 1 km long, the previous road surface was only 4-6 m wide. To widen the road to 6.5-7 m, paving with asphalt concrete requires expanding the land compared to the current status. Widening the road involves land clearance, while local budget is limited and not capable of supporting.
The Party Committee and the commune government have directed socio-political organizations and villages to proactively develop plans to propagate and mobilize people to join hands with the locality. Many organizations and individuals inside and outside the commune have also provided financial support to help the locality have additional support for families to demolish and rebuild donated structures. To date, over 95% of households have completed the demolition of structures and handed over the site to the locality.
Mr. Bui Quang Tien, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda Team for Land Clearance of Lai Vu Commune, said that when starting to implement the renovation and expansion of the road, the locality encountered many difficulties. Because the land value in the commune is currently quite high, most of the families located along the road have built surrounding walls, fences, auxiliary works, shops, etc.
With determination for the common goal, Lai Vu commune organized public meetings in the whole commune and in the villages to implement the policy and promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people. During the meeting, to collect opinions from the people, the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune sent cadres to attend to advise on the most suitable implementation plan. In addition, the propaganda and mobilization team in the villages where the road passes through also went to each family to propagate and mobilize.
According to Mr. Bui Quang Tien, to build the commune's main road, the households agreed and donated nearly 1,000 m2 of residential land. Previously, to build a model new rural area from 2022 - 2023, the people in the commune also donated over 2,000 m2 of residential land to renovate and expand many village and hamlet roads; contributed 5.5 billion VND and over 2,000 working days.
With solidarity and consensus for a common goal, currently 100% of village and hamlet roads in Lai Vu commune have been renovated, expanded and renovated. The commune's main road is under construction and is striving to be completed before Lai Vu commune merges with Cong Hoa commune in the near future.
