French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Paris is discussing with its allies about inviting Ukraine to join NATO.
On October 19, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot arrived in Kiev for a two-day visit to express support for Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference after meeting his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, French Foreign Minister Barrot expressed support for the idea of inviting Ukraine to join NATO immediately.
He said Paris was discussing the issue with its allies.
French Foreign Minister Barrot's visit comes days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a five-point plan, which included a call for NATO to immediately invite Ukraine to join the bloc.
NATO has said Ukraine will become a member of the military alliance "one day" but has also said Kiev cannot join while it is in conflict with Russia because this could lead to direct conflict between NATO and Russia.
So far, NATO leaders have avoided responding directly to Ukraine's request for an invitation to join the bloc.
