A US congresswoman has introduced a bill proposing to make US President Donald Trump's birthday a federal holiday.
Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney wrote on social media X on February 18: “Just as former President George Washington's birthday was designated a federal holiday, President Trump's birthday should be celebrated to recognize him as the founder of America's 'Golden Age'.”
The first US president George Washington was born on February 22, but Presidents' Day, which commemorates his birthday, is celebrated on the third Monday of February.
Previously, in another post on X on February 14, when Ms. Tenney submitted the bill, this congresswoman assessed: "No modern president has played a more important role for our country than Donald Trump. Today, I have submitted a bill to recognize President Trump's birthday and Flag Day as a federal holiday, ensuring that his contributions to the greatness of America will be forever enshrined in law."
Flag Day also falls on June 14. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Flag Day is a national observance but not a federal holiday.
In January, Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a bill to carve President Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore, which features giant portraits of four former U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. According to a press release, the bill suggests that President Trump’s likeness be carved next to former President Abraham Lincoln.
In January, Congresswoman Addison McDowell proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after President Trump. Washington Dulles International Airport is located 26 miles west of Washington, DC.
The facility opened in December 1962 and was named after Secretary of State John Foster Dulles under former President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1959).
Naming airports after presidents is not new in the United States. Another airport in the Washington, DC area is named after Ronald Reagan National Airport, the White House chief from 1981-1989.
Another airport in New York is named after John F. Kennedy International Airport – the US president assassinated in 1963. However, to date, no airport has been named after President Trump.
