Russia and Ukraine conduct prisoner exchange

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on June 25 that Russia and Ukraine had each exchanged 90 prisoners captured in the current conflict, with the UAE participating in efforts to mediate the prisoner exchange.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on June 25 that it and Ukraine had each exchanged 90 prisoners captured in the current conflict.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has also joined efforts to broker the prisoner swap, according to the statement. According to the agreement, Russian prisoners will be transported to Moscow on military transport aircraft and will receive medical treatment at military medical facilities.

Meanwhile, the UAE media on the same day quoted a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizing that the success of this latest mediation effort was the result of the UAE taking advantage of its different relationships and partnerships with both sides, affirming that this was the fifth successful mediation since the beginning of this year.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stressing the importance of dialogue, de-escalation and diplomacy to resolve the conflict and minimize humanitarian consequences.

On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the return of 90 of his country's prisoners of war held by Russia.
