On August 6, the Ukrainian army made a surprise attack across the Russian border in Kursk province. Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said that the Ukrainian army was believed to have entered Russia with about 1,000 troops, using armored vehicles, tanks, UAVs, air defense systems and electronic warfare means. In response to these incidents, Russia announced an “anti-terrorist operation” in Bryansk, Kursk and Belgorod provinces, including monitoring telephone conversations and other information.
