Mr Lavrov said the US and its allies "must understand that we will be ready to use all means to prevent them from succeeding in what they call Russia's strategic defeat".

"We are sending signals and we hope that the last signal, a few weeks ago, with the new weapon system called Oreshnik... was taken seriously," Lavrov added. About two weeks earlier, Russia had launched the Oreshnik hypersonic missile at the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

The Russian foreign minister stressed that his country did not want to escalate tensions and wanted to avoid any misunderstandings with Washington and its partners, warning that "it would send further messages if they did not make the necessary decisions".

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that he would use the Oreshnik hypersonic missile to continue attacking Kiev in response to Ukraine's attacks on Russian territory. Putin said the Oreshnik missile has a speed of 10 times the speed of sound and cannot be intercepted by air defenses.

Lavrov also accused the US of trying to “bully” Russia and other countries. He accused the Biden administration of escalating the conflict in Ukraine and leaving “the worst possible legacy” for the Trump administration. Regarding Trump, Lavrov said: “I think he is a very strong person, a person who wants results, who does not like to delay anything.” This was a reference to Trump’s election campaign vow to quickly end the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, with Ukraine, he said Moscow "is ready for any contingency but we really want a peaceful solution through negotiations on the basis of respecting Russia's legitimate security interests".

Referring to the peace deal, the Russian Foreign Minister said that Kiev would have to accept Russia's declaration of control over the Donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk and Zaporizhzhia regions. "Now, in fact, according to the constitution, they are part of the Russian Federation," he said.

In addition, Mr. Lavrov also emphasized that the current war would not have happened if Ukraine and its Western partners had complied with the Minsk agreements. He said that the rejection of the Minsk agreements and the use of force by Ukraine and the West to control Donbas were the reasons for Russian President Putin to launch a special military operation.

He said that if the agreements had been implemented, Ukraine would have kept its territory. "If they had implemented the Minsk agreements, Ukraine would have been a single bloc, except for Crimea," he said. However, the Russian foreign minister said the agreements had been "sabotaged" from the start by former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and then Mr Zelensky.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also revealed details of some provisions in the peace draft that Russia and Ukraine almost reached at the round of negotiations in Istanbul, Türkiye in March 2022. This time, he said that then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was responsible for disrupting the peace negotiations and causing the current undesirable situation.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin also said that by 2022, Ukraine was ready to sign a peace treaty with Russia, but British Prime Minister Johnson convinced the Zelensky administration to abandon this intention.
