Admiral Dragone will assume his new position from January 2025 after Admiral Bauer completes his six-month extension to his new NATO mandate. The decision was made at the NATO Military Committee meeting in Oslo. In addition, the decision also allows Admiral Dragone to continue as Chief of the General Staff of the Italian Army until November 2024.

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee expresses the views based on the consensus of all NATO member states' Chiefs of General Staff and is the principal military adviser to the NATO Secretary General, the North Atlantic Council and other NATO high-level bodies.
