On April 8, the Mexican Consumer Protection Office (Profeco) announced the recall of more than 4,000 Tesla vehicles currently in circulation in the country due to font errors on the central dashboard related to warnings about braking, stopping and parking.
The vehicles subject to this recall include 389 Tesla M3s from 2023, 523 MXs from 2022-2023, and more than 3,000 MYs from 2020-2023.
Profeco said it will coordinate with Tesla's representative in Mexico to carry out the recall and inspection procedures, emphasizing that the reason for the recall is because the brake, stop and parking signal font size of the above models is smaller than 3.2 mm. This font size may be too small to attract the driver's attention, thereby increasing the risk of collision and accident. After the recall, the company will update the software to increase the font size. In addition, the American electric car manufacturer will adjust the circuit protocols to increase the ability to integrate the unlock function of the MX and MS models of the 2021-2023 version.
Previously, on March 2, US authorities also requested a similar software fix for nearly 2.2 million Tesla cars currently in circulation due to font sizes smaller than 3.2 mm - the minimum size according to this country's regulations.
