On January 5, the US Tesla Group announced that it would recall more than 1.6 million electric cars in China due to a software problem that could pose a safety risk while driving.
According to the announcement, Tesla decided to recall after discovering problems with the driver assistance function and door locking system and will proceed to adjust via remote update (OTA) to the vehicle's software.
SAMR's online announcement stated that starting from January 5, a total of 1,610,105 electric vehicles including imported Model S, Model X, Model 3 and domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y models with production dates from August 26, 2014 to December 20, 2023 will be recalled.
SAMR said that when the driving assistance function of these models is automatically turned on, the driver may misuse the level 2 coordinated driving assistance function, increasing the risk of collision and causing safety loss.
The recall also covers 7,538 imported Tesla vehicles manufactured between October 26, 2022 and November 16, 2023, after the company discovered problems with the car's door lock controller.
China is a major consumer market and is also home to Tesla's main manufacturing plant in Shanghai, playing a key role in the company's global manufacturing system.
