The new Notification Channels feature is coming soon to Facebook and Messenger platforms and will be rolled out globally by Meta in the near future.
Meta - The parent company of social network Facebook announced that it will bring Broadcast Channels to Facebook and Messenger. This is a public, one-to-many messaging tool for Facebook Pages.
This way, Page Admins, like creators and public figures, can use Notifications Channels to more directly reach and engage with their communities, creating a space for followers to feel more connected and explore topics they care about.
Page admins can use Channels features to get instant feedback from the community, or behind-the-scenes photos, videos, or voice messages to create more authentic interactions.
Meta is currently testing Notification Channels for Facebook Pages and plans to roll out the feature globally in the coming months. All Facebook users will be able to join these Notification Channels to stay up to date with the latest news from their favorite Pages.
Meta representatives said that if they receive a notification of availability on Facebook Pages Manager, Page admins can initiate a Notification Channel from their Page. If they haven't received a notification yet, admins can join the waiting list and be notified when the feature becomes available.
Once a Page admin creates a Notification Channel and sends the first message, Page followers will receive a notification to join the channel. In this space, only the channel creator can send messages, and Notification Channel members can react to messages and vote in polls.
Users can join Notification Channels from their favorite Pages on Facebook and view the channels they have joined in their Chats list. Once they join a channel, they will start receiving notifications when those Pages post content. Users can turn off notifications by tapping the "mute notifications" icon in the top right corner of the channel.
Meta said that Facebook and Messenger Channels must adhere to the two platforms' Community Standards to ensure the safety of channel members. Participants can report either a Channel or specific content shared within it if they see signs of a policy violation. The channel or content may then be removed.
Because of their public nature, creating a Chat experience that everyone can interact with, Notification Channels won't be subject to the same moderation rules as private messages on Facebook and Messenger.
Meta will also use tools and manual review teams to help identify, review, and remove content from the Notifications Channel that potentially violates Community Standards before it becomes visible to anyone.
