German luxury car brand Mercedes revealed the first images of the electric GLC during testing before its launch in Munich in September this year. Mercedes calls the electric GLC "GLC with EQ Technology", this is also one of five models that the German car company will introduce by 2027.

It was previously reported that Mercedes would stop using "EQ" to name its electric models (like the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, and EQS) after their lifecycles. The "GLC with EQ Technology" is similar to how Mercedes named its electric G-class the "G580 with EQ Technology."

With its new name, the "GLC with EQ Technology" acts as a successor to the EQC. Through the leaked images, the electric GLC is not much different from its internal combustion engine brother.

The German automaker revealed that the 4Matic version of the electric GLC is equipped with two electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. Of which, the electric motor on the rear axle is the main transmission and is combined with a 2-speed gearbox. The remaining electric motor on the front axle supports the performance of the electric motor on the rear axle.

With an 800V electrical platform, the GLC EV supports fast charging over 320 kW, much larger than the EQC's 110 kW fast charging. The battery cells use anodes with silicon oxide mixed into graphite to achieve high energy density.

The electric GLC is based on the dedicated MB.EA platform, which is also the platform for Mercedes electric models. According to the media, the GLC EV is 129 mm longer than the GLC ICE. The 4Matic test version has a capacity of 483 horsepower.

Mercedes' electric high-rider features a new braking system that combines the brake booster, master cylinder and electronic stability control into a compact module that delivers "accurate and consistent pedal feel and feedback." In addition to being smaller, the new braking system also optimizes brake energy recovery and helps extend the GLC EV's range.

A heat pump is also standard, and when it comes to heating the interior, the system uses around a third of the energy of an equivalent electric heater. Mercedes notes that it can “simultaneously exploit three energy sources: waste heat from the electric drive, waste heat from the battery and ambient air.” The German automaker adds that it “effectively cools in the summer and heats in the winter.”
