On March 8, Viet Duc Hospital announced that it had just received emergency treatment for a 13-year-old student (residing in Hai Duong) who suffered multiple injuries due to a computer explosion while he was studying.

Initial information at around 2:00 p.m. on March 6, the male student was studying on his laptop at home when the computer suddenly exploded. The male student received first aid at Hai Duong Provincial Hospital and was then transferred to Viet Duc Hospital.

The boy was hospitalized in a coma, on a ventilator, with his entire head, face, neck and upper chest covered in wounds from laptop fragments.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, Viet Duc Hospital, said the patient suffered multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injury, complex maxillofacial injuries, chest and eye injuries, pneumothorax, and crushed left forearm...

"Immediately, the patient received professional assessments and multidisciplinary consultations to coordinate assessment, consultation, and surgery for complex injuries.

After emergency surgery, the patient is being monitored and actively resuscitated at the hospital.

Previously, in 2020, in Ha Tinh province, there was also an accident where a laptop exploded while 3 students were studying online at home. The laptop was charging and suddenly exploded, causing one student's hand to be crushed, and the other 2 students suffered facial injuries and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.

Signs of computer explosion risk

According to an electronics expert, when using a laptop, you need to carefully observe with the naked eye to see if the battery is swollen, warped or deformed (for laptops with removable batteries), or if the battery area is abnormally warped or enlarged for laptops with internal batteries.

"If there are such signs, the battery is damaged and can easily explode. You should not use the device and need to replace the battery with a new one," experts recommend.

In addition, some signs to note when using the computer are the battery area of the machine is unusually hot (touching it is much hotter than usual). At this time, the user should turn off the machine and not use it to let the battery cool down.

Then check if the battery has any abnormal signs, if so, replace the battery with a new one. If there is no abnormality and when used again, it is still unusually hot, you should also replace the battery with a new one to ensure safety when using.
