On December 22, Brazil's National Civil Defense Agency said a Piper Cheyenne 400 jet taxi crashed in the city of Gramado, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, killing all 10 people on board.

On his social media account X, Gramado mayor Eduardo Leite announced that the crashed plane crashed into a densely populated area just minutes after takeoff that morning and rescue workers were mobilized to assist the injured.

When the plane crashed, it hit the chimney of a two-story house before crashing into a furniture store and bursting into flames. 15 people on the ground at the crash site were lucky to escape.

The regional meteorological agency said thick fog was covering Gramado at the time of the crash, causing poor visibility. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. Small aircraft are common in Brazil.

On the same day, Brazilian police said the death toll from a series of traffic accidents in Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil, early on December 21 had risen to 41. Twelve victims have been identified.

According to authorities, 49 people were victims of a series of collisions between a bus, a truck and a car.

Among the survivors were four bus passengers, the truck driver and three people in the car.

According to preliminary investigation results, the truck driver was overloaded. When turning a corner, a slab of granite on the truck fell onto the road and hit the bus, causing the accident.
