Through two crops, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants (Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences) initially evaluated Seng Cu rice grown organically as suitable for the soil in some places in Hai Duong.
Seng Cu rice grows and develops well, is slightly infected with blast disease, and is less susceptible to leaf blight than the control variety, Bac Thom No. 7. The rice grains are large and long, the rice is sticky and more fragrant than some rice varieties grown locally. In terms of yield, Seng Cu rice reaches over 2 quintals/sao, equivalent to Bac Thom No. 7. However, Seng Cu rice is sold at 30,000 VND/kg, 10,000-12,000 VND/kg higher than the control variety, while the production cost difference is insignificant.
Seng Cu rice is grown using organic methods, which helps reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides, thereby creating clean products and protecting the living environment.
That is the result of the field workshop on Seng Cu rice variety organized by the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants in Chi Minh commune (Tu Ky) on the morning of June 3.
This year, rice was planted on an area of 75 hectares in the communes and wards of Co Bi (Binh Giang), Chi Minh (Tu Ky), Chi Minh, Dong Lac (Chi Linh) and Lac Long (Kinh Mon). This is the second year that the unit has planted this rice variety in Hai Duong.
