New car series coming to Vietnam

1. Mitsubishi Triton

According to many sources, the new generation of Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck will be launched to Vietnamese customers in early September. The car is still imported from Thailand and dealers have received deposits.

Through leaked images and information, the new Triton is designed based on the “Beast Mode” concept but still follows the Dynamic Shield style at the front of the car, showing a strong and sturdy appearance. The car's cockpit is arranged horizontally, along with the addition of a series of more modern features and utilities, along with the ability to connect via the Mitsubishi Connect application.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is built on a new ladder frame with a larger cross-sectional area and an increased proportion of high-strength steel. The suspension is similar to before, with double wishbones used in the front, while the rear still uses a leaf spring system, but is lighter and combined with thicker shock absorbers. At the same time, the power steering system has now switched to electric instead of hydraulic.

In addition, the car will also be equipped with a safe driving assistance system (ADAS) for the first time, expected to have many smart features, typically the Active Yaw Control (AYC) feature, while still maintaining other basic systems.

There is no information about the vehicle's engine yet. In Indonesia, the new Triton is equipped with a 2.4-liter inline VGT diesel engine that produces 184 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm to 3,000 rpm. Meanwhile, some other markets will be distributed with a high-roof version, high power 204 horsepower at 3,500 rpm and 470 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm to 2,750 rpm. Both automatic and manual transmission options are offered for the Indonesian market, both of which are 6-speed gearboxes. The Triton's transmission system also has seven driving modes thanks to the Super Select-II system.

2. Hyundai Santa Fe

Information about the new generation Hyundai Santa Fe model that is about to be sold in Vietnam is spreading widely and currently some Hyundai dealers have implicitly confirmed this by accepting early deposits for the car with some basic information revealed about this crossover model.

The new generation Hyundai Santa Fe is expected to be introduced in Vietnam in the fourth quarter, but customers who pre-order will receive their cars one month after the launch.

This is a new version with many changes from the interior and exterior of the car. The car has a square and strong design.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe has a wide range of powertrains with four different options globally, including naturally aspirated petrol, turbocharged petrol, Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV).

In its most basic form, the crossover is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5L petrol engine that produces 191 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The higher-end 2.5L turbocharged engine produces 277 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque, also mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the Hybrid and PHEV options both include a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, but the biggest difference is the PHEV's battery pack and ability to charge directly from an external source. Both systems provide a maximum capacity of up to 261 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the completely different design upgrades compared to before, the new generation Hyundai Santa Fe has also increased in size in terms of length, height and wheelbase. The wheel rims have also been increased to 21 inches in diameter. The car is equipped with 2 large 12.3-inch screens, 2 wireless charging docks, a 6.6-inch screen air-conditioning control panel...

3. Kia Carnival

Distributor Thaco is preparing to launch the upgraded Kia Carnival model for 2024, this MPV model was launched in 2021 and achieved great success in the segment with stable sales since being sold on the market. This makes many users look forward to the mid-life upgrade (facelift) with a stronger design and equipment updates.

Currently, some Kia dealers in Vietnam are accepting deposits for the 2024 Carnival model with the promise of early delivery in September or October. The large MPV is expected to still be produced and assembled at the Thaco-Kia factory in Quang Nam.

Information from dealers shows that the first new model to be delivered is the 2.2-liter diesel version with a maximum capacity of 199 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The current version equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine is expected to no longer be sold.

In return, the 2024 Kia ​​Carnival may be equipped with a Hybrid powertrain option that combines a 1.6L gasoline engine with an electric motor, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission, for a capacity of up to 242 horsepower.

The Kia Carnival facelift was launched globally in late 2023 with slight changes in appearance. The front design of the car has new vertical headlights along with a wider and more square grille while the LED daytime running lights still retain their shape. The sides and rear of the car are almost the same as before, but the wheel rims are upgraded with a new shape.

The interior of the car still has the same design style as before, but the instrument cluster and entertainment screen are said to be improved with a dual form combining two 12.3-inch screens. At the same time, the new Carnival also has an additional 11-inch head-up display (HUD).

4. Honda Civic Hybrid

Honda Civic will be updated with a new version next October with a Hybrid transmission system, the first time this sedan model appears in Vietnam.

Honda Vietnam has just announced plans to launch a new Civic model with strong upgrades, but the most notable is the addition of a Hybrid version (e:HEV RS system similar to the CR-V). In addition to saving fuel, the car also has much better performance than the previous version.

The new Honda Civic continues to be imported from Thailand with many different color options, the Elegant Blue option only appears on the e:HEV RS version while the other colors are available on the regular G and RS versions with pure gasoline engines. Customers can pre-order the car at Honda car dealers nationwide from August 9 and it is expected to be officially launched in October.

The Hybrid system on the e:HEV RS version is a combination of a 2.0L gasoline engine with an electric motor for a maximum capacity of up to 200 horsepower (149 kW), for high response and powerful performance. In addition, the G and RS versions will still have the traditional 1.5L VTEC TURBO gasoline engine maintained on the two RS and G versions, producing a maximum capacity of up to 176 horsepower (131 kW) at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of up to 240 Nm at the rpm range of 1,700 - 4,500 rpm.

The upgraded version of Honda Civic will have some design updates both in the interior and exterior, the radiator grille has the most refinements with a hexagonal pattern combined with a sharp front bumper and large air vents, the taillights are also edited with a dark color to create a more harmonious look.

Along with that, the new Honda Civic is equipped with the Honda CONNECT telecommunications connection system on the e:HEV RS and RS versions, while the e:HEV RS version has active noise cancellation and modern personal driving mode.

The car continues to integrate the advanced Honda SENSING driver assistance technology system equipped on all three versions, including many different features: Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS), automatic adaptive headlights (AHB), automatic adaptive high beams (ADB), adaptive cruise control including low speed range (ACC with LSF), lane departure mitigation (RDM), lane keeping assist (LKAS) and lead vehicle departure notification (LDN).
