Spain beats Georgia to meet Germany in quarter-finals

Spain will face Georgia in the round of 16 of EURO 2024. Having defeated Portugal in the group stage, Georgia could not repeat the feat against the team considered the top candidate for the championship.

After the opening whistle, coach Luis de la Fuente's players quickly took complete control of the game on the field. They pressured their opponents and continuously had dangerous shots.

The surprise happened in the 18th minute. From a great cross by Otar Kakabadze, Robin Le Normand awkwardly put the ball into his own net under pressure from Kvaratskhelia.

This goal significantly affected the mentality of the Spanish team. They played without cohesion and continuously made bad passes.

Meanwhile, the Georgian team continuously organized quick counter-attacks with many remarkable plays. However, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Georges Mitaukadze failed to take advantage of the opportunity to double the gap.

The Georgian team paid a heavy price for wasting scoring opportunities. In the 39th minute, Rodri had a great touch before finishing from outside the box to equalize 1-1 for the Spanish team.

Having lost their advantage before the end of the first half, the next 45 minutes were a period in which the Georgian team could not create any more surprises. In the 51st minute, from a precise cross by Lamine Yamal, Fabian Ruiz jumped high to head the ball, helping the Spanish team take the lead for the first time.

With nothing to lose, the Georgian team pushed up their formation in search of an equalizer. In fact, coach Willy Sagnol's players still left an impression thanks to their ability to switch from defense to counterattack at high speed.

However, Kvaratskhelia were too isolated. Whenever they lost the ball up front, Georgia's small defense was always put on alert.

In the 76th minute, the Spanish team organized a quick counterattack. Nico Williams got past the Georgian defender and fired a powerful shot to raise the score to 3-1 for the Spanish team. Seven minutes later, it was Dani Olmo's turn to raise the score to 4-1 with a very tricky shot.

With a win over Georgia, Spain will meet Germany in the quarter-finals.
