The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on March 28 (local time) called on Lebanon and Israel to stop escalating in southern Lebanon, and called for a diplomatic solution to the border conflict.
In a statement, UNIFIL said it was imperative to immediately end the current situation, calling on all parties to lay down their arms and begin the process towards a lasting political and diplomatic solution.
UNIFIL also expressed concern about the increased violence in the Blue Line area, which has resulted in the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of homes and livelihoods.
UNIFIL affirms its readiness to support a diplomatic solution by all means, including convening a tripartite meeting at the request of the parties.
Earlier on March 28, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, expressed concern over the continued attacks on health facilities and health workers in southern Lebanon. He stressed that “attacks on health care facilities violate international humanitarian law and are unacceptable.”
The statement came a day after Israeli strikes killed 11 civilians in southern Lebanon, including 10 medical workers.
