Israel carries out new series of attacks on Lebanese territory

On March 10, Israel carried out a series of new attacks on Lebanese territory after Hezbollah forces there launched about 35 rockets toward northern Israel the day before.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that several rockets were launched from Lebanon towards the Meron area in the Upper Galilee, about 8km from the border with Lebanon. Seven of them were intercepted by Israeli air defense systems.

Meron, home to an air traffic control base, has been the target of multiple attacks by Hezbollah since the beginning of the year. There have been no reports of casualties as a result of the attacks.

According to Israel's Ynet news network, following the Hezbollah attack, the Israeli army fired artillery shells at the towns of Habbariyeh, Kounine and southern Lebanon.

In addition, the Israeli military said it also struck Hezbollah facilities in the Ayta and Shab regions, and an anti-tank missile launch site in the Maroun El Ras area.

In a statement released today, Hezbollah admitted to firing “dozens of rockets” into Israel, targeting a house in the Khirbet Selm area. Lebanon’s official news agency said at least five people, including four from the same family, were killed and nine others were wounded in the airstrike.

These are the latest retaliatory attacks between Israel and Hezbollah since the two sides erupted in cross-border conflict on October 7, 2023 following the Hamas-Israel conflict.

Preliminary statistics show that the conflict has killed at least 312 people in Lebanon, while 10 soldiers and 7 civilians have been killed on the Israeli side. In addition, tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border have been evacuated to ensure safety.

Hezbollah says it will only stop attacks on Israel when there is a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

However, recently, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that even if there is a ceasefire in Gaza, the country will not give up its goal of pushing Hezbollah out of southern Lebanon, whether by force or diplomacy.
