The culinary website TasteAtlas has announced a list of the 5 best hot pot dishes in the world, including Vietnamese beef hot pot with vinegar and ta pi lu.
Since TasteAtlas' culinary experts set foot in Vietnam to experience and evaluate local dishes, Vietnamese cuisine has always ranked high on this website's rankings.
Not only are world-famous dishes such as banh mi, pho, and broken rice highly appreciated, but there are also rustic dishes from all regions across the country on TasteAtlas's lists, worthy of the title "world culinary map".
In particular, from seafood dishes to soups and hot pots, almost every category has at least one Vietnamese dish in the top 10.
In the list of the top five best hot pot dishes in the world of this website, there are two Vietnamese dishes: hot pot with beef dipped in vinegar and hot pot with mixed vegetables (also known as hot pot with mixed vegetables) ranked second and fourth respectively.
According to TasteAtlas' description, the beef hotpot with vinegar has the sour taste of vinegar, the sweetness of coconut water, and the aroma of lemongrass, onions, and other spices.
While the broth is simmering on the stove, diners will add sliced beef along with a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs such as bean sprouts, radish, lettuce, cucumber, mint, basil and perilla leaves.
TasteAtlas also suggests that users can omit shrimp and squid and don't forget to add fish sauce and chili sauce.
On the rankings, beef hotpot with vinegar is only behind the famous Taiwanese hotpot. In addition to ranking second in the hotpot category, beef hotpot with vinegar is also the best meat dish in Vietnam, ranked 23rd in the top 100 best meat dishes in the world (beating Japanese karaage chicken, famous Greek gyros rolls,...)
As for the dish Ta Pi Lu, or on TasteAtlas called Vietnamese hotpot, this is just a hotpot that Vietnamese people often gather around and cook with available ingredients at home such as beef, chicken, pork, seafood, tofu, mushrooms, fish cakes,... to serve drinking activities or family meals.
According to TasteAtlas, hot pot broth often has fried garlic, chili, fish sauce, sugar, ginger, lemongrass, tamarind, etc. The more ingredients you add, the more fragrant the hot pot will be and the richer the flavor will be.
In addition, this website also introduces dipping sauces such as salt, chili, lemon, Chinese-style soy sauce (including soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, chili, sesame seeds).
