On May 7, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Russian Federation, in coordination with the Vietnamese Literature and Arts Association in the Russian Federation, solemnly held the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

The ceremony was attended by a large number of Embassy officials, representative agencies next to the Embassy, and representatives of Vietnamese associations in the Russian Federation.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi recalled the heroic significance of the victory of the Viet Minh army 70 years ago, a victory that "created a red wreath and a golden history".

That victory originated from the glorious tradition of the nation, from the wise and talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the great President Ho Chi Minh, from the strength of great solidarity of the entire people and army and the determination to fight with the spirit of "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom" of our army and people.

That victory led to the signing of the Geneva Agreement to restore peace in the North, ending the war against French colonialism. That victory was a diplomatic victory, raising the position of the young country of Vietnam in the international arena.

The Dien Bien Phu victory showed the remarkable maturity of the Vietnam People's Army, the skillful military art, and the strategy of the army generals, most notably General Vo Nguyen Giap, who made even opponents like French General Henri Navarre admire him.

Vietnam's victory in the Dien Bien Phu campaign also had great significance for the national liberation movement around the world, ending French colonial rule in the three Indochinese countries, opening the way for the collapse of colonialism in the world.

Every year on May 7, along with the people in the country, Vietnamese people in the Russian Federation remember the merits and sacrifices of the heroes, martyrs, and frontline laborers who created the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu "famous throughout the five continents, shaking the earth".

Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi especially emphasized the importance of spreading that glorious and heroic tradition to the younger generation.

The ceremony was especially practical with a talk by poet Nguyen Huy Hoang, Chairman of the Literature and Arts Association in the Russian Federation, about the image of soldiers in Vietnamese poetry and a cultural program with patriotic songs, proud of the homeland.

On this occasion, the new Executive Committee of the Vietnamese Literature and Arts Association in the Russian Federation was also introduced to the entire community.

As one of the oldest associations in the Russian Federation, for 30 years now, the association has accompanied the Vietnamese community before the Vietnamese Association.

The new President of the association, poet Nguyen Huy Hoang, said that despite experiencing many ups and downs in its activities due to changes in the times and overcoming constant financial difficulties, the association has so far published more than 50 books and organized dozens of Nguyen Tieu poetry nights, contributing to bringing spiritual food to the Vietnamese community in their struggle to make a living in a foreign land.

Congratulating the new Executive Board of the association, Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi expressed his hope that after the organization is reorganized, in addition to improving spiritual life, the association will pay attention to mobilizing and supporting people in maintaining and continuing authentic, humane and deeply-identified cultural values to generations of Vietnamese people born and raised in the Russian Federation.
