A 6-year-old boy was found with severe burns on his body while staying in the rented room of his biological father and "stepmother" in Ward 16, District 8, Ho Chi Minh City.
On October 4, District 8 Police, Ho Chi Minh City announced that they had initiated a criminal case, prosecuted the accused, and arrested Nguyen Quoc Toan (24 years old) and his wife Le Thuy Thanh Tam (22 years old) to investigate the act of intentionally causing injury.
Toan and Tam were arrested on charges of abusing NTK (6 years old), Toan's stepchild.
Previously, Ms. NTV (K.'s biological mother) reported to the police station of Ward 16, District 8, about the child's burns and suspected abuse. The mother also accused her ex-husband, Toan, of being involved in the child's injuries.
On the morning of September 28, K. was found in her biological father’s rented room in Ward 16, District 8, with severe burns on her body. K. lived with her biological father and “stepmother” here.
After receiving the information, the authorities coordinated and took K. to the hospital for emergency treatment. The boy suffered second-degree burns and said he had been beaten by his father. The police then investigated and arrested Toan in Long An province.
Ms. NTV said that she and Toan used to live together as husband and wife, without registering, and had a child together, NTK. Around the beginning of April 2021, the two broke up and she brought K. back to her hometown to live.
By mid-July 2024, due to lack of time to take care of her, she gave K. to T. to take care of. Since then, K. has lived with Toan and his new wife.
On September 28, she received a call from an acquaintance informing her that her son had been burned and was being treated at the hospital. She immediately quit her job to take care of her son. With the injuries on her son's body, she suspected that he was abused by his father.
The case is being further investigated and handled by the authorities in accordance with the law.
