The South Korean military announced that North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles in the northeast direction on September 18.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a statement that the launches were detected at 6:50 a.m. local time on September 18 in the Kaechon area of South Phyongan Province, north of the North Korean capital Pyongyang. However, the news did not provide further details, including the number of missiles fired.
The JCS said the South Korean military will share information on North Korea's ballistic missiles with the United States and Japan and maintain a readiness posture.
On September 13, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un also inspected a number of nuclear facilities in the country, demanding to strengthen and enhance nuclear capabilities to cope with external threats. A day earlier, North Korea also test-fired a new 600mm multiple rocket system.
