South Korea says North Korea has launched a ballistic missile. Japan says the missile appears to have landed outside its Exclusive Economic Zone.
On May 30, South Korean military sources said North Korea launched a ballistic missile off the east coast (of the Korean peninsula).
Japan's NHK also reported that North Korea's missile appeared to have fallen outside the country's Exclusive Economic Zone in the above sea area.
Meanwhile, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff has yet to provide further details and said it is conducting further analysis of the launch.
The information was released in the context of the US State Department announcing on May 28 that US Deputy Foreign Minister Kurt Campbell, Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Okano Masataka and South Korean First Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Hong Kyun will attend a three-way dialogue in Little Washington, Virginia on May 31.
